Seeker's Guide to Self-Freedom

Guy Finley

(From Chapter 1) - Inviting What is True to Set You Free...

The potential height of any truthful principle, with its commanding view of life, remains essentially groundless for us unless we agree to reach above ourselves and enter into the realm of its superior reality. In other words, and to bring us to the point of the special exercises that follow, Truth can only convey its liberating powers upon us to the degree that we are willing to explore the freedom it promises.

(From Chapter 4) - Going Beyond the Limitations of Thought...

It is given to us to choose whether we dwell within the temporary or the permanent - whether we run with the stream that pours itself into the desert and disappears, or actively abide within the ocean that feeds all such passing pools. We are empowered to choose whether to give ourselves over to what hurts us, or to what heals us. In short, we may practice the presence of those states of being that are, in themselves, the source of our unconscious suffering, or we may work to practice, consciously, the presence of what is inherently filled with light - those elevated states associated with the Divine.

The key here is that everything depends upon how willing we are to be aware of the relationship between where our attention is and what we are becoming in that moment as a result of its placement. The unattended mind, by the very nature of the low level of thoughts such a mind permits, dwells in one unseen relationship after another with whatever punishing presence permeates this unconscious accord. If we will do the inner work to be conscious of ourselves in the present moment - to increase our awareness of all that moves within us in these times - we make it possible to give ourselves the greatest gift of life there is. We will share the presence of what is true, light-filled, timeless and love-bestowing. We will reach the awakened life and enter our true home beyond the realm of thought.

(From Chapter 5) - Breaking Our of Self-Punishing Patterns...

Everything depends upon our ability to inwardly discriminate between thoughts and feelings that are for us as opposed to those that are against us. Whenever confronted with an onslaught of internal impressions, the most powerful tool you have is to go silent. Step away from the situation inwardly by bringing everything that is going through you into your deliberate field of attention. There is a native unity in a silent mind that is able to both witness and "taste" the thoughts and feelings passing through it. It is this internal field of silence that reveals the character of any impressions and shows them for what they are. It¹s hard to make a mistake when your first wish is to see these thoughts and feelings instead of just unconsciously turning your will over to them.

(From Chapter 8) - Lessons Only Love can Teach...

Science now knows what enlightened sages have been saying since time began: The true nature of all things is change. Everything is always becoming. Which means nothing can be truly considered without taking into account hose forces driving these invisible changes.

What science has yet to learn is that these governing forces working behind all becoming possess their own intelligence, and that all things are transforming endlessly according to their relationship with this intelligence.

Creatures with fixed natures must become what their natures dictate. Lions, flowers, and fish are without choice in this respect. However, human beings are endowed with certain features in their nature that may allow them to choose what they become. And since the choice is not whether to become one thing or another, but rather in whose likeness we are becoming, the wise among us see this fact and work accordingly to align ourselves with those forces intuited to be for the highest good. Then their goodness becomes our own, and our lives become their expression. Here is the key to this highest of relationships:

Learning to love what is good begins with being truthful about what we presently love and what we are becoming because of our relationship with it. This higher level of self-awareness actually transforms the life it becomes aware of, and as we are transformed by it - and begin becoming new within it - then we know the true benefit of being a lover of Truth is that this Love becomes us. And, as the following benefits are designed to reveal, this ever-renewing Love fears nothing!

(From Chapter 9) - Relationships: The Pathway and the Promise of Real Life...

Hidden in the center of each human heart dwells a great spiritual secret. Left undiscovered, as it often remains for most of the masses, its presence causes the soul that harbors it to spend its days on earth seeking it knows not what, finding what is never enough, and then starting out all over again. But once this secret tells itself, the truth it reveals opens the heart that is its home, and leads the weary seeker to a whole new and higher relationship with life.

What is this great spiritual secret that we are created with, and that we must come to know if we are ever to end our wanderings and realize that peaceful strength we long for? The relationship our heart longs for already exists.
