No Attachment RequiredLarry JamesNasty E-mail Bug - (5/15/00) U.S. security experts are investigating an e-mail bug that a user can activate without opening a file attachment. It was first detected several months ago. It's called "KaK" and it affects computers with Internet Exployer 5.0 or Microsoft Office 2000 due to a security hole in Microsoft's browser. A patch is available on Microsoft's Web site. This bug infects computers without updated virus protection when the e-mail in which it lives is opened and previewed, and works its mischief even if the browser is closed and the default security settings are on. This is one more reason to update your anti-virus program on your computer at least every week or two. No real damage has been reported. Although currently benign, if "KaK" were reprogrammed, it could do severe damage. AOL VIRUS ALERT - Password Stealing Trojan. Hotmail Users Beware! - A new security problem has been found on the world's most popular web based e-mail service. If you are a Hotmail user be sure to get the info here. ![]()
