Q My boyfriend and I have been together for almost a year and he is not romantic. How can I get him to be romantic?

A If you've been together for a year and he's been this way most of the time, he is most likely among the many men who are "romantically impaired" and is not likely to change. For many men, this is incurable.

If he was romantic in the beginning and he's stopped being that way, you know he knows how to be romantic and has decided that now that he has you, he doesn't need to do that anymore. This is called "taking you for granted." He has yet to learn that what you take for granted. . . disappears!

If you can love him for who he is and what he gives to the relationship, then you may want to stay. If you need romance (and most women do), and he chooses not to give it you will have to make a new choice.

My friend, Greg Godek has written a book for men like him. It's called, "1001 Ways to be Romantic." You might want to get a copy and leave it on the coffee table for him to discover. When he does, let him know that romance is important to you and that you are going to highlight a few ideas that may encourage you to "show" him just how grateful you are that he is willing to continue to do some of the things that brought you together in the first place.

Romance keeps the flame of love alive. It shows your partner you care.
